On May 5, Joseph Brennan, (second from right), the chairperson for the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, was awarded The Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America and the Garden State Council. The Silver Beaver is a national award presented by a local council and is the highest honor a local council may bestow upon a volunteer. Brennan was recognized for his noteworthy service of exceptional character to non-Scouting youth; exceptional service to the BSA; and service or standing within the community or community organization. The award honored Brennan’s service as chair for the Catholic Committee on Scouting, and his leadership in guiding over 20 Catholic Boy Scouting Troops and Packs and Girl Scouting Troops. There are over 1,000 Catholic young people connected with Scouting in the diocese. With Brennan are, from left, Gregory Coogan, director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Camden; Deacon Robert Foley, associate chaplain for the Diocesan Committee on Scouting; and Father Robert Hughes, Vicar General for the diocese.
