The Diocese of Camden released the following statement March 4:
According to published reports, Mark Haynes, a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, currently faces charges of child sexual abuse which allegedly occurred at a parish in the archdiocese. The archdiocese has removed his faculties.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Haynes resides in Egg Harbor City, NJ, although court records indicate he is subject to electronic monitoring at a Pennsylvania address. Haynes is not and never has been a priest of the Diocese of Camden, and an investigation by the Diocese of Camden indicates that it has no request from him or from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to minister in the Diocese of Camden.
The Diocese of Camden has notified all pastors and school principals that Haynes is not permitted to say Mass, hear confession, or engage in any type of ministry whatsoever.
The Diocese of Camden urges all those who have been abused to report such abuse to law enforcement. In addition, the Diocese of Camden sex abuse hotline is 800-964-6588. Any case of sexual abuse reported to the diocese is immediately sent to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
