A loaves and fishes story in South Camden

After a Christmas Grinch ran off with well over $1,000 from Sacred Heart Church in Camden a few weeks ago, individuals filled with the spirit of the holiday came together to replenish what was lost.

On the first Sunday of Advent, an unidentified man stole $1,200 from the church basement, collected during a homemade food sale, while the community was celebrating a Mass for expectant mothers.

After news of the theft appeared in papers and on television, donors quickly raised more than the $1,200 lost.

This money raised will help in the creation of 1,000 holiday food baskets, filled with Christmas dinner fixings, that the church will deliver to South Camden’s needy this weekend, said Msgr. Michael Doyle, pastor.

Thanks be to God, we’ve received more than we lost,” he noted. “Thanks to all the good people who helped us (help others), it’s a happy ending.”
