Al Radano, a beloved and successful baseball coach at Gloucester Catholic High School, winning five state championships in 14 seasons, died Oct. 8 at the age of 70.
A 1960 graduate of Gloucester Catholic, Radano served as assistant coach for five seasons before becoming head coach in 1976. He led the Rams from 1976-80 and again from 1983-93, compiling a 351-101 career record as head coach.
His 1980 state title team finished with a 24-0 record, and featured future MLB pitcher Bob Sebra.
Last March, he was selected to the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame, and he is also a member of the Camden County Sports Hall of Fame, South Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame, New Jersey High School Coaches Hall of Fame, and South Jersey Hot Stovers Baseball Hall of Fame.
A viewing was scheduled for Oct. 12 at Gardner Funeral Home, 126 South Black Horse Pike, in Runnemede from 5:30-9 p.m.
