CAMDEN — One hundred fifty volunteers, donors, staff members and culinary arts students celebrated the 35th birthday of Cathedral Kitchen at a Birthday Bash on April 3.
The independent, nondenominational nonprofit marked 35 years of providing meals and other services to the poor in Camden at the gathering at the facility in the city.
The organization began in April 1976, when four young residents of Camden began serving soup and sandwiches out of the back door of a church. The organization opened its current facility at 1514 Federal Street in 2008.
Today, Cathedral Kitchen provides 10,000 meals per month to people in the Camden area and offers culinary arts training to poor individuals and health services to the community.
