Bishop Joseph Williams visited the Sisters of Saint Joseph Neighborhood Center in Camden on May 4, touring the facility and meeting with staff members. “We had a wonderful visit with Bishop Williams,” said Sister Bonnie McMenamin, SSJ, director of the center. “We were so very grateful for his visit and his interest in our ministry.” With Bishop was Father Terry Odien, a retired priest of the Diocese, seen above. Located in the Cramer Hill section of the city, the SSJ Neighborhood Center is “modeled on the work of the first Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1650 France, who set out to assess and serve the needs of their neighbors by becoming one with them,” according to their website.

The Center offers programs such as ESL and Spanish literacy classes, and sewing and crocheting groups. It also hosts community meetings and social events, and is home to a community garden. It assists community members with a food pantry, social service referrals, emergency rent and utility assistance, free eye screening and glasses, notary services, government application assistance and access to computers.
