At press time, Bishop Dennis Sullivan was scheduled to lead a Commissioning Ceremony on Wednesday evening, Sept. 12, for the 17 delegates — laity, diocesan staff, priests, deacons, religious — that will join him next week at the National V Encuentro gathering in Grapevine, Texas.
The key event of a five year-long process that has brought together Hispanic Catholics in their communities, dioceses, and regions to reflect on how they can best practice missionary discipleship, the V Encuentro will take place from Sept. 20-23 with 3,000 delegates from all around the country.
The four days will include daily Mass, speakers, workshops, and “will be a great opportunity for the delegates from our diocese to learn more about the reality of the Latino community, but moreover to contribute from their experiences to develop new strategies to serve better Hispanic Catholics in the U.S.,” said Andres Arango, Bishop’s Delegate for Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Camden.
The commissioning ceremony was to be held at Saint John Paul II Retreat Center in Vineland.
