In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden will light the hospital’s 30-foot, 15-ton statue of the Blessed Mother blue on April 2.
The lighting of the statue is in participation of the “Light It Up Blue” campaign, a global initiative that hopes to raise autism awareness by lighting the exterior lights blue of landmarks, bridges, and buildings. Famous landmarks that turn blue on April 2 include the Empire State Building, Aspen Mountain in Colorado, Niagara Falls and Christ the Redeemer in Brazil.
Lourdes Child Development Services works with children and families affected by autism.
The statue is lit green each time an organ transplant takes place at the hospital-in an effort to honor all organ donors and raise awareness of the need for organ donors.
