People of the Book, a regular feature of the Catholic Star Herald, was honored at the 2011 Catholic Media Convention, held June 22-24 in Pittsburgh. Written by Michael Canaris, the column took honorable mention in the category Best Regular Column — Scripture.
See this week’s People of the Book in the Column section of the website under Growing in Faith.
The Catholic Star Herald also was honored for Best Headline (third place), and photography in the category Best Photo Illustration (second place).
The head, “Patron of doughnut eaters and beer drinkers,” ran over a story about the controversy surrounding a column the Vatican newspaper printed about Homer Simpson. It ran in the Oct. 29, 2010 Star Herald. The photo of two homeless men in Camden City accompanied a story about the Obama administration’s plans to deal with homelessness. It ran in the July 2, 2010 issue. Both headline and photo were by managing editor Carl Peters.
