Editor:
I don’t often write editorial responses on articles, but I read Ronald Rolheiser’s “Spiritual Life” column in the April 9 Star Herald and felt compelled to speak about this wonderfully rendered message on Christ’s suffering on the cross.
Christians like myself just came out of the holiest week of our church’s liturgy. I, like so many faithful souls, experienced Lent with thoughtful preparation, some sacrifice and a heightened awareness of what Christ’s passion, death and resurrection means for our Christian faith and for our own lives. But in my personal memory, no one addressed the full implications of that agony and humiliation better than Father Rolheiser’s words.
As I read his depiction aloud to my husband, my spirit rose even as my heart almost broke at the humanity he conveyed in the humiliation and pain Christ experienced, both physically and psychologically, during those dark hours and days. I only hope that many of your readers took the time to read Father Rolheiser’s insights. I know they spoke to me with a stronger sense of Christ’s humanity, bringing me closer to the core of my Christian faith than ever before.
