On Sunday, May 13, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament dedicated its new crucifix at St. Michael Church in Minotola.

Before the 10:30 a.m. Mass, Father Allain Caparas, pastor, blessed the crucifix with holy water, and said a short prayer.

The day also commemorated the parish’s first feast day, since it was established as a newly-merged parish last September.

The crucifix’s origins go back to the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Philadelphia, where it adorned the altar, and it is believed that the crucifix was originally placed at the same baptistery where St. Katharine Drexel was baptized.

After the church closed in 1995, the crucifix was purchased by the then-Our Lady of Grace Parish in Somerdale, which merged with neighboring parishes to form Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Lindenwold.

Through the kindness of Our Lady of Guadalupe pastor, Father Joseph Capella, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament was able to purchase the crucifix, solely from the donations of the parishioners of its three churches: Queen of Angels, St. Rose of Lima, and St. Mary.

“I’m very pleased and grateful to the parishioners for making this possible,” Father Caparas said.

“The crucifix will only enhance our faith and bring people together as one community of faith.”
