Dressed to persuade
With her teacher, Cheryl DeVecchis, holding the microphone, first grade student Samantha Brown reads her essay. DeVecchis has been teaching her students at St. Michael the Archangel Regional School, Clayton, how to write persuasive essays and present their arguments. Because she compared the effort to what lawyers do in a courtroom, the boys and girls had to opportunity to wear business attire, carry briefcases and  present their “cases” to a court consisting of family members, teachers and students.
