Father Robert J. Kantz, 73, former administrator and pastor in Penns Grove and Westville Grove, passed away on Oct. 26.
Born on October 10, 1944 in Wisconsin, he served 20 years as an officer in the United States Army Reserve, and was employed in the Life Sciences Laboratory Business before completing his seminary formation at South Orange’s Seton Hall University, and being ordained a priest of the Diocese of Camden by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio on June 2, 2001.
Shortly after his ordination, he was assigned as chaplain to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
Father Kantz was administrator of Penns Grove’s Saint James Parish from 2003-2005, and administrator and pastor of Most Holy Redeemer, Westville Grove from 2008-2010.
He was also parochial vicar at Saint John of God, North Cape May (2005-2008) and Holy Angels, Woodbury (2010-2016), and worked in the Diocesan Office of the Tribunal.
Retiring last year, he continued in-residence at Holy Angels.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Holy Angels Parish, Saint Patrick Church. Interment was private.
