On Saturday, June 14, a day of formation for Hispanic music ministry leaders took place at Stockton College’s Catholic Campus Ministry Center in Galloway Township, providing an opportunity for all gathered to pray, share and reflect on their work.
Sixty-five ministers from all corners of the Diocese of Camden participated in the Hispanic conference, which included presentations on “The Spirituality of Ministry,” “Theology of Liturgical Music” and “Practical Tools and Resources.”
The day was “a great opportunity to have an encounter with other leaders, to share, pray and have continued formation together, learn how we can better improve our communities of faith, and ask ourselves, why are we doing this,” said Damaris Thillet, diocesan director of Music Ministries, who gave the talk on the “Theology of Liturgical Music.”
“The function of (liturgical) music, is to serve God and help people pray,” and encounter the Lord, Thillet added.
Amidst the busy-ness of music ministry, and preparing for liturgical services, ministers were reminded of their true occupation. “We are disciples of the Lord first, and then musicians,” said Kathia Arango, diocesan coordinator for the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
