Full of Grace – Elvira Burke, catechist for many years

A Eucharistic Minister, PTA president, teacher, and religious education director, Elvira Burke was a dedicated servant to the Camden Diocese.

The diocese recognized this, and presented her with the Bishop’s Medal, for her 50 years of service.

Burke, who died Aug. 8, 2003 at the age of 83, was a longtime parishioner of St. Agnes Church in Blackwood.

In addition to serving as a Eucharistic Minister, she was founding president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the RCIA team; and a director and teacher for many years, with the religious education program.

For many years she was the longest serving catechist in the diocese.

Burke also taught at Sacred Heart School in Mt. Ephraim, where she was President of the PTA, and taught at St. Joseph’s School in Camden.
