CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Fourteen Cape May County families were graduated June 3 after completing a parenting and child abuse prevention program.
Most children wore commencement caps and carried Teddy bears while walking with their mothers at the Cape May Zoo to receive certificates of recognition.
Open to first time mothers until their child is 3 years old, the free and voluntary program is part of the Cape May Healthy Families TIP (TANF Initiative for Parents), an arm of the Holy Redeemer Health System. The program, which has been in existence since July 1996, provides information on health care, sleeping and growth patterns, nutrition, literacy, and parenting tips.
The three year program is conducted through weekly hour-long home visits. Currently 115 Cape May County families are enrolled.
The graduation program was held in the Cape May County Park and Zoo picnic area.
