Dawn Eden, the author of a book about spiritual healing after childhood sexual abuse, will speak at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cherry Hill, on Friday, June 21, at 7 p.m.
In “My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds With the Help of the Saints,” Eden offers a Catholic spirituality of healing for victims of childhood sexual abuse.
Eden found that by learning about the saints who endured sexual abuse and through praying to and with them, she found release from the life sentence of shame and anger that sexual abuse can impose.
Born into a Jewish family in New York City, Eden lost her faith as a teenager and became agnostic. During her 20s, in the 1990s, she was a rock journalist in New York City, interviewing performers such as Elton John and Brian Wilson. She went on to work on the editorial staff of the New York Post and the Daily News.
At age 31, Eden experienced a conversion to Christianity that ultimately led her to enter the Catholic Church. Her first book, “The Thrill of the Chaste” (2006), became a surprise hit, published in four languages and earning her speaking invitations throughout North America, Europe, and Australia.
