Holy Spirit Hall of Fame

Holy Spirit High School, Absecon, hosted the fourth annual Salute to the Spartans Bash Nov. 3, honoring the individuals who were inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame: Nona Russo (posthumuous), Dennis Sher and Coach Joe Welsh.

Nona Russo was a Holy Spirit faculty member from 1982-2002. She spent 15 years as the school’s varsity cheerleading coach, and 10 years as the school’s Drama Club moderator.

Dennis Sher, father to eight Holy Spirit graduates, spent 20 years as member of the school’s Fathers’ Club; and three years as Fathers’ Club president. Sher is also co-founder of the Mary Theresa Sher Foundation, in memory of his daughter. The Foundation’s annual golf outing raises scholarship dollars for eighth graders attending Holy Spirit.

As crew coach for 27 years, he has helped his teams achieve multiple national championships; multiple Stotesbury Cup Regatta championships; and led the 2003 and 2004 women’s teams to Gold Medals at the Henley World Regatta.
