Holy Spirit junior wins state competition

Michelle Moffa of Linwood, a junior at Holy Spirit High School, Absecon, was the New Jersey state winner of the 2013 Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) competition. She was selected for her project, “A Point-of-Use Water Filter for Developing Countries – Year III – Improving Effectiveness, Practicality, and Sustainability of Arsenic Removing Biosand Filters.” Michelle represented New Jersey at the national competition, June 14-16, in Portland, Ore. The purpose of the SJWP program is to increase student interest in water-related issues and to raise awareness about global water challenges. The competition is open to projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life through improvement of water quality, water resource management, water protection, and water and wastewater treatment.
