Msgr. Michael Doyle describes pouring blessed water from his parish, Sacred Heart in South Camden, on the grave of Seamus Heaney in Ireland this past fall in an essay about the poet in America magazine.
“Digging Deep: Remembering Seamus Heaney” is printed in the March 17 issue of the Jesuit journal.
A native of Longford, Ireland, Msgr. Doyle also noted that one of Heaney’s poems inspired the peace monument that his parishioners erected near the church in 2009.
Heaney, who was born and raised in Northern Ireland, won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1995.
