On Saturday, Oct. 23, the Catholic Community of Christ Our Light in Cherry Hill held its first Mitzvah Day, proclaiming the Gospel by serving others.
More than 250 volunteers shared their time, gifts and talents at almost 30 locations all over South Jersey, including:
— a Saturday morning blood drive in the school auditorium;
— painting, cleaning, and gardening inside and outside Sacred Heart School in Camden;
— a refugee meet and greet in Kurylo Hall, on the Queen of Heaven, Cherry Hill campus;
— preparing lunch for residents at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden; and
— visiting patients at the Voorhees Pediatric Facility.
After the events, a Mass and potluck dinner were held at the school for all volunteers. It is hoped that Mitzvah Day will be an annual event, where Christ Our Light parishioners can share themselves with the surrounding community.
