Msgr. Francis Sprecace, 84, a priest in the Diocese of Camden for almost 60 years, died May 2.

Msgr. Sprecace was pastor at Nativity, Franklinville (1970-72); Our Lady of Victories, Landisville (1972-80); St. Martin de Porres, Hammonton (1980-85); and St. Michael, Atlantic City, from 1985 until his retirement in 1997.

Msgr. Sprecace was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He studied at St. Paul’s Monastery in Canfield, Ohio; Pia Societa San Paolo, Rome; and Christ the King Seminary in St. Bonaventure, N.Y., before being ordained on Dec. 17, 1955 in Camden by Bishop Bartholomew J. Eustace.

After his ordination, he was assigned to St. Michael Parish, Atlantic City as parochial vicar, where he served from 1956-57. He was also parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Berlin (1957-62); Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Camden (1962-66); St. Maria Goretti, Runnemede (1966-69); and St. Stephen, Pennsauken (1969-70).

Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, Fla., on May 4.
