Bishop Joseph A. Galante has named Gregory A. Coogan director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Camden, effective Aug. 15.
Most recently, Coogan, 36, served for two years as Young Adult Ministry coordinator in the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y. There, in addition to ministering to youth, his work included coordinating catechetical workshops for a diocesan youth convention, delivering training workshops for parish staff and councils, and establishing diocesan retreat opportunities.
Before serving the Diocese of Buffalo, he was campus minister from 2006-09 for the Newman Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Amherst, N.Y.
A 1997 graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo (B.A., Political Science/Urban Studies), Coogan also has a certificate in Philosophical-Theological Studies from St. John’s University, Jamaica, N.Y. (May 1999), and a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies/Focus on Pastoral Leadership from the Washington Theological Union, Washington, D.C. (December 2003).
“It is essential that the message of the Gospel continue to find a place in hearts of young people and young adults,” Coogan said. “We need their voices and input and I am looking forward to serving the Church of South Jersey.”
