Among Our Lady of Mercy Academy’s biggest supporters are two individuals, one team and one family selected for induction into the 2017 Salerno Society Hall of Fame.
Recognized for the profound impact they’ve had on South Jersey’s Catholic school for young women, this year’s slate of honorees includes: Susan Cavagnaro, OLMA Class of 1967 and long-time faculty member; Isabella Lezzi, Mary Golden, Gina Marie Hartman and Abigail Kazan (Abbot), the four members of the 2009 Varsity Crew Team’s Senior Quad Boat; Dr. Alexis Harvey, OLMA Class of 1977 area radiation oncology specialist; and Bifulco Farms, representing the many members of the Bifulco family.
In their honor, OLMA will hold a grand Hall of Fame Induction Dinner event on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Merighi’s Savoy Inn in Vineland. All proceeds will go toward OLMA’s growing athletic program.
The Salerno Society was created in 2012 and is named in honor of Sister Mary Dolores Salerno, D.M., OLMA’s first principal. It was through her efforts that OLMA introduced sports as an integral part of the school’s curriculum. “The mission of The Salerno Society is twofold,” said Society Chairperson, Bernadette Corwonski-Miller. “First, we want to honor Sister Dolores for her incredible commitment to OLMA as principal. In addition, we want to pay tribute to the many others who have contributed to the growth of our school as athletes, scholars, teachers, coaches, benefactors, and career professionals.”
