Finally something in the “On Behalf of Justice” column I can agree with! I agree with Father Gregorio that the U.S. should not attempt to be world policemen (“Defense spending often wasteful, immoral,” Sept. 30). Of course, his accusation that our military are “securing the ability of American companies abroad to obtain resources and goods at a huge discount” is absurd and he offers no proof or basis for his accusation. Attack the waste, not the principle! And Father Gregorio needs to stop blaming corporations for sitting on cash and refusing “to use the money to create jobs.” Government regulations and policy uncertainties prevent prudent companies from hiring; many corporate executives have testified to Congress on such restrictions.
