Former Vineland Public School Superintendent, Charles (Chalky) Ottinger will assume the duties of Head of School at Sacred Heart High School, Vineland, following the resignation of Dr. Albert Monillas.
He will hold the office until a permanent replaement is hired.
Ottinger is Sacred Heart Board of Limited Jurisdiction Vice Chair.
A 1967 graduate of Sacred Heart, Ottinger earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at Mt. St. Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, Md., and a master’s degree in secondary school administration from Rowan University, Glassboro.
He has spent 39 years in education as a teacher, coach and administrator. He was Vineland public schools supervisor of athletics 1988-2004; principal of Vineland High School South, 1994-2006; and superintendent of Vineland public schools, 2006-09.
Dr. Monillas resigned after civil harassment charges were filed against him in Camden federal court by two former employees at the Camden County Vocational and Technical School, where he had previously been employed as superintendent.
“All parties concurred that it would be impossible for Monillas to continue to effectively serve the Sacred Heart community,” according to a statement released by the school.
“We are grateful for Dr. Monillas’ contributions,” said Msgr. John Burton, rector of the high school. “However, with the wellbeing of the school our priority concern as always, I’ve accepted Dr. Monillas’ resignation,” Msgr. Burton added.
