The Catholic Star Herald was honored for editorial content and advertising by the annual Catholic Press Awards competition this year.
Joanna Gardner, social ministries communicator for Catholic Charities, took first place for Best Editorial on a National/International Issue (Non-Weekly Diocesan Newspaper, circulation 25,001 or more) for “An Advent call to action on climate change” (Dec. 10, 2015).
Tom O’Shea, production coordinator and graphic designer, was a double award winner, taking second place for Best Single Ad Originating with the Publication (Black and White Ad) and third place for Most Effective Use of Small Space.
The paper also took a first place for Best Personality Profile (Non-Weekly Diocesan Newspaper, circulation 25,001 or more) for a story on poet Michael White’s conversion (Aug. 20, 2015). It was written by managing editor Carl Peters.
