Star Herald staff photographer James A. McBride took a first place Catholic Press Award for a photo that was printed on the front page of the Aug. 5, 2011 issue.

The image, which won in the national 2011 Best Feature Photo category, was of 93-year-old Rose Venuit McGowan playing her violin for her fellow residents at St. Mary’s Catholic Home, Cherry Hill. It accompanied a story by staff writer Peter G. Sánchez about the residents’ monthly tea.

McBride has worked at the Star Herald since 1970.
