The St. Damien Parish, Ocean City, Youth Group held their Second Annual Prayers for Life Vigil on Jan. 20 at St. Augustine Church.
With 20 youth from high school and middle school youth groups, and eighth grade confirmation students, the Youth and Family Hour, from 6-7:30 p.m., included praise and worship, Scripture readings, a candlelight service, and a commemoration for the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
The purpose of the vigil was to pray for the sanctity of life, in preparation for the annual trip to the March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 25.
“We started the Prayers for Life Vigil last year as a way to come together as a parish, and pray for the sanctity of all life,” said Katie Haviland, director of Youth Ministry for St. Damien Parish. The vigil was “such a beautiful way for them to witness to their faith, and pray for their brothers and sisters in Christ,” she said.
