Sister Agnes Dolores Thornton, 79, dies

Sister Agnes Dolores Thornton, IHM, 78, who formerly taught at Queen of Heaven School, Cherry Hill, died Thursday, Sept. 9.

Born in Philadelphia, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1950 from Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Philadelphia, and professed her first vows in 1953. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Immaculata University, and a Master of Arts from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.

In addition to Queen of Heaven, where she taught from 1963-69, Sister also taught in elementary schools of the Archdioceses of Philadelphia and Miami; the Dioceses of Harrisburg, Metuchen, and Richmond and in Lima, Peru.

Her survivors include her religious community, and her brother, Frank Thornton. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry B. and Madeline M. Grisillo Thornton.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on September 13. Interment followed in the Immaculate Cemetery.
