Sister Ann Reyes of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Ossining, New York, who served in the Diocese of Camden in the 1960s and ’70s, died Tuesday, April 17, at The Wartburg in Mount Vernon, N.Y. She was 81 years of age.
She taught at Gloucester Catholic High School in Gloucester (1961-69 and 72-73). She was principal of Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in 1971-72). She also was Director of Religious Education at Holy Spirit Center in Atlantic City, (1973-76).
Sister Ann also served in Puerto Rico, New York, Connecticut and Paterson, N.J.
Sister Ann, formerly known as Sister Mary Richard, entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh on Sept. 8, 1950, made her first profession June 17, 1952, and final profession Aug. 22, 1955. Sister Ann Reyes is survived by a brother, Felix of Mt. Vernon, New York; a sister, Maria Pais, of Portugal; and a sister and brother-in-law, Alda and Nestor Azevedo, of Pawling, New York. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Felix M. and Mary P. Pais Reyes.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 23, at the Dominican Center of Mt. St. Mary’s College, Newburgh, NY.
