Sister Anne Joachim Vari of the Dominican Sisters of Hope died Sept. 25 in Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Vincenzo and Elvira (Campitelli) Vari, she was born March 1, 1932 in Camden.
Sister Anne Joachim entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, N.Y, on Sept. 8, 1955; made first profession in June 1957 and final profession Aug. 20, 1960.
Sister Anne Joachim began her teaching ministry in 1957 in Hawthorne, N.J. In 1965, she transferred to St. Lawrence School in Lindenwold and remained until 1971. She also served in Passaic and Parsippany, N.J. She retired to the Newburgh Center of Hope in 2007 and moved to the Wartburg, Mount Vernon, N.Y. Until her illness, Sister spent her time caring and visiting the Sisters who live at the Meadowview at the Wartburg.
Sister Anne Joachim is survived by her sister Helen Ucciferri, brother-in-law Louis, nephew Louis Ucciferri, and nieces Diane Vari and Idamarie Allerdyce, grandnephew Louis Ucciferri, grandniece Crystal Howard and her husband Marcus, and great grandniece Addoxo Howard.
Funeral Services for Sister Anne Joachim were held Sept. 29 at the chapel in the Dominican Center at Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, N.Y. Burial was in the Dominican Sisters Cemetery in Newburgh.
