Sister Gloria Jones, retired teacher, dies

Sister Mary Gloria Jones died peacefully on March 8 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, N.J. She was 93.

Sister Gloria entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1945 at Mount St. Mary in Watchung and kept her baptismal name. She taught for the next 50 years in parish elementary schools in the Camden, Trenton and Metuchen dioceses: Saint Mary’s, Camden; Star of the Sea, Atlantic City; Saint Joseph, Bound Brook; Saint Francis, Metuchen and Saint Paul, Princeton.

When she retired from teaching in 1996, Sister moved to Saint James Convent in Red Bank where she contributed her services as needed. In 2012, Sister Gloria moved to McAuley Hall Health Care Center.

Sister Gloria is survived by her nephews, Jeffrey, Mark and Scott Jones and cousins Barbara Woods and Patricia Jones.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at McAuley Hall Health Care Center on March 12. Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, N.J. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community, 1645 Highway 22 West, Watchung, N.J. 07069.
