Sister M. Leona Mackiewicz, perpetually professed member of the Little Servant Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, died Nov. 6 at St. Joseph’s Senior Home, Woodbridge, N.J.
Born in 1921 in Bayonne, named Adela, Sister Leona (like her recently deceased sibling Sister M. Caroline) cared for orphans, the elderly, was a home visiting nurse and taught in schools in the Dioceses of Camden and Metuchen, before serving as a receptionist and then her final prayer apostolate.
Sister is remembered for her kindness and devoted works of charity, and is survived by members of her Congregation, her sibling Mrs. Laura Kowal, nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 9 at The St. Joseph’s Assisted Living Chapel, Woodbridge. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
