Sister Margaret Regina, IHM, formerly Margaret M. Cunnane, former teacher at St. Teresa School, Runnemede, died on Saturday, Oct. 2, in Camilla Hall. She was 93.
Born in Philadelphia, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1934 from St. Callistus Parish in Philadelphia, and professed her first vows in 1937. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Immaculata University and a Master of Arts from Villanova University.
Sister served as a principal and teacher in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and in the dioceses of Allentown, Camden, and Arlington. She taught religion at St. Teresa from 1991-2004.
She was elected First Councilor of the congregation in 1968 and served in that position until 1974. She was appointed as a Regional Superior in 1981, and served in this position until 1988. In 2004, she retired to Camilla Hall where her ministry was the apostolate of prayer.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, Pa., on Oct. 6. Interment followed in the Immaculata Cemetery.
The members of her religious community, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive Sister. Her parents Patrick and Catherine Stretch Cunnane and her siblings, Joseph and John Cunnane and Nancy Cunnane Thomas predeceased her.
