Sister Mary Damien Widmeier (Madeline Widmeier) of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament died peacefully at St. Elizabeth’s Convent on Aug. 15. She was 88.
Born in Camden and raised in Pennsauken, Sister Damien was the youngest daughter of the late Louis and Laura Widmeier. She is predeceased by siblings, Doris Toole, Thelma Jones, Marie Thompson and Florence Hort and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Sister Damien was a member of St. Cecilia Parish in Pennsauken and graduated from Camden Catholic High School in 1944. She entered the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in August 1944 and professed her final vows in July 1947.
Sister Damien graduated from Villanova University in 1954. She served for 70 years in various missions in Mississippi, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and California.
Sister Damien was interred at the St. Elizabeth’s Convent Cemetery Aug. 21.
