Mercy Sister Ruth Mary Holland, (former Sister Mary Nativitas) 88, died peacefully on July 13, at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
Sister was born and raised in Trenton, and attended Cathedral High School where she was a star player on the basketball team. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1940. She received a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ.
She taught at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Atlantic City, St. John, Collingswood, as well as in the dioceses of Trenton and Metuchen..
She retired to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung where she continued her ministry of prayer and hospitality.
She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph S. and Arthur J. Holland, and a half brother Edward Atwood. She is survived by her sister-in-law Elizabeth Holland, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and also many Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community.
The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at McAuley Hall Health Care Center July 17. Burial in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
