Sister Theresina Flannery, RSM, 89, an Atlantic City native who taught in Catholic schools in the dioceses of Metuchen and Trenton, died Oct. 23 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J.
She graduated from Saint Peter Elementary School in Pleasantville in 1940, and four years later, completed her studies at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon.
Sister Theresina earned a bachelor of arts in mathematics from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, in 1957, and a master of arts in mathematics from Philadelphia’s Villanova University in 1964.
After teaching for many years at the elementary, secondary and college levels, Sister Theresina was a co-founder of Mount Saint Mary House of Prayer in Watchung, N.J., where she ministered for nearly 40 years.
She served as president of the Sisters of Mercy of New Jersey from 1986-94. She is survived by her in-laws, Alfred Rundio, Margaret Flannery and Dolores Flannery and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Thursday, October 27 at Mount Saint Mary in Watchung. Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, N.J.
