When the new English-language edition of the official Roman Missal goes into effect in the United States Nov. 27, the first Sunday of Advent, here are some of the changes at Mass:
When the celebrant says, “The Lord be with you,” the congregation will no longer reply “And also with you.” Instead the response will be “And with your spirit.”
The creed after the homily will begin “I believe in one God . . .” instead of “We believe in one God. . . .”
Also in the creed, the text will now read that Jesus is “consubstantial with the Father” rather than “one in Being with the Father.”
Sung parts of the Mass including the Gloria and Holy Holy Holy will have new wording.
At the end of Mass the celebrant will no longer say “The Mass is ended, go in peace.” Instead the priest will have four options for the wording of dismissal. The one preferred by the pope is “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.”
