Msgr. Roger E. McGrath, vicar general, stands with Dr. Thomas A. Cavalieri, left, dean of the university of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine, and Dr. Richard K. Spence, a retired physician who has worked at several major medical institutions, following the 13th annual White Mass, celebrated Sunday, Oct. 2, in the chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden. The two physicians were presented with the St. Luke Award, given in recognition of “the personal and professional examples the honorees have provided in promoting Catholic principles and values in healthcare in Southern New Jersey.” The White Mass is celebrated each year near the feast of St. Luke who, tradition holds, was a physician. It is intended to honor all who provide health care in the diocese.
