VINELAND — In the tradition of the old Bob Hope specials where he went around the world entertaining our troops, an encore performance of Saluting Our Heroes through a Century of Broadway is set for Nov. 9 at St. Mary’s School.
The response to the program held in June by the St. Padre Pio Parish Players was so overwhelming, that the encore presentation was planned.
The program honors all of this nation’s heroes: military, police, firefighters, and moms and dads alike, said Carol Kirchman, advancement director at St. Mary’s School. “This all-American celebration features 100 years of Broadway music during act one and a patriotic tribute to all heroes during act two.”
She noted that guests will include volunteer firefighters, Police Explorers, Army personnel, and retired veterans, among others. Guest speakers will be from families who have served or are currently serving the country.
“Any military or civil service person who comes in uniform or with proper identification will be admitted free,” she said. Tickets are $5 at the door. Showtime is at 7 p.m. Doors open 6:30.
And like Bob Hope, the show went on the road for a special performance on Father’s Day at the N.J. Memorial Veterans’ Home, Kirchman said.
According to Grace Hoffner, director and producer, “I just want this performance to put a smile on the faces of everyone who has given so much to this country. I want my cast to feel appreciated and good about what they are doing. Most of all I want all of the children in the performance to have something to remember in years to come that makes them proud of whom they are.”
