Sylvia Mary McFadden, who has taught third grade at Saint Joseph Regional School in Somers Point for 17 years, was recently honored as Outstanding Educator of New Jersey at the spring luncheon for MBCA (Metropolitan Business Citizens Association) at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
The award was presented by the mayor of Atlantic City, Don Guardian, along with the current Miss America, Savvy Shields.
McFadden was chosen from some 100 applicants from Atlantic County.
McFadden was given a grant check for $1,500, which she donated to the school’s Annual Fund.
The MBCA is a non-profit civic/business organization. Its membership includes a dozen casinos, over 500 local businesses, 60 nonprofit groups and over 100 citizens.
