The baby wearing a miter gets the pope’s attention
Anne Hartman, principal of Christ the King School, Haddonfield, took this photo of Pope Francis enjoying the sight of a baby wearing a miter, the tall, pointed ceremonial cap worn as part of liturgical dress by a pope or bishop. She explains: “I was blessed to be in the crowd down by Independence Hall today and stood right behind the barrier next to a couple who had a 4-month-old daughter who was dressed in white and was wearing a miter on her head. We joked and laughed all day that if we were lucky enough to actually be on the right street for the pope to pass by we would try to get his attention for him to see the baby and wave. Well, Pope Francis saw her, and he laughed out loud, stopped the car, sent his guard to get her and then sent the baby back with a message thanking the mother for making him laugh and that he appreciated a sense of humor.”
