Bishop Sullivan baptizes Jason Dorsey at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel, Hammonton, during the Easter Vigil.
Last week, Roman Catholics in the Diocese of Camden observed the Easter Triduum, which begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, reaches its highest point with the Easter Vigil, and concludes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday.
Bishop Dennis Sullivan, marking his first Easter season in the Diocese of Camden as its shepherd, visited several parishes to celebrate the triduum.
At Holy Eucharist Parish in Cherry Hill, he commemorated the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday, March 28, washing the feet of the faithful in imitation of Jesus’ service to his apostles. The next day, he visited Our Lady of Mt. Carmel/Fatima Church in Camden, the starting point of the Stations of the Cross Procession through the city streets (see page 17). Later that day, the bishop celebrated the Good Friday liturgy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden.
On Saturday, Bishop Sullivan led the Easter Vigil Mass at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish in Hammonton. At the Easter vigil, individuals who have been in preparation to enter into full communion with the church receive the sacraments of initiation.
At St. Mary of Mt. Carmel, Brian E. Bosco, Jason Dorsey, Eric Adriano Perez and Cristina Pirri all became full members of the Catholic Church and received Communion for the first time.
On Easter Sunday, Bishop Sullivan celebrated 11 a.m. Mass at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Haddon Heights, joyfully commemorating Jesus’ resurrection with his flock.
