Above left, Tony Melendez performs at Bishop McHugh Regional School, Ocean View, on Friday, April 15. Born in Nicaragua and now living in Branson, Mo., Melendez plays the guitar with his feet. He was born without arms because his mother was prescribed thalidomide, a drug once used to ease morning sickness in pregnancy. He gained international fame in 1987 when Pope John Paul II was so moved by his performance in Los Angeles that he embraced the musician. Right, Melendez sings with a couple of students.
