With their loved ones present, the cremated remains of 14 individuals found eternal rest last Saturday morning in Resurrection Cemetery in Clermont, in a group committal service that began with a funeral Mass at Resurrection Church in Marmora.
Sponsored by the Camden Diocesan Office of Cemeteries, the event saw the burials done at no cost to families, during this Jubilee Year of Mercy and its call to “bury the dead.”
The Catholic Church has stated that cremation is allowed, but that remains should be reverently buried or entombed in a place reserved for the burial of the dead.
After the funeral Mass celebrated by Msgr. Peter Joyce, pastor of Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish, the remains, in their own individual boxes or urns, were placed in a hearse for departure to the cemetery, where they all were placed in a grave vault.
A new columbarium at the cemetery, to be used for cremated remains, was also blessed by Msgr. Joyce last Saturday.
