Last weekend, Vineland’s families were transported back in time to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus, courtesy of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish.
The church community hosted the seasonal event on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10, in the church parking lot and in the parish hall.
Beginning outside in the cold, guests of all ages were treated to the narration and re-enactment of key Biblical scenes leading up to the savior’s arrival, embarking on a “Journey to Peace” complete with costumed actors and live animals. Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth, and the angels’ appearance to the shepherds, along with other scenes, warmed visitor’s hearts.
Escaping the weather for a “Night in Bethlehem” in the parish hall, guests were greeted by the town’s villagers, who taught them how to harvest olives; create pottery Christmas ornaments; and affirmed God’s covenant to Israel, in Hebrew school.
“The event was a true community collaborative,” said Anita McDonald, who helped coordinate the event alongside the parish’s Lifelong Faith Formation office.
