Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, on Tuesday, Aug. 4, had the official groundbreaking for its new synthetic turf football field, going for a fast-track installation that will be completed by mid-September and in play for the first home football game of the season on Oct. 3. At the ceremony, administrators broke ground with the very same silver shovel that was used to launch the building of the school that opened at its current location in 1962.
Camden Catholic has partnered with Sprinturf, a sports facility construction company founded in 1988 and headquartered in Wayne, Pa. Sprinturf is a U.S.-based provider of synthetic turf surfaces for private, municipal, high school, collegiate and professional athletic uses. The company has installed fields at Kean University, N.J.I.T., LaSalle University, Drexel University, University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, and the Philadelphia Eagles Nova Care Center.
The field will be made of a patented, dual fiber synthetic turf system that maximizes both safety and performance. Bulldozers and other equipment were on site for the groundbreaking, and construction of the new turf was slated to begin soon after.
