“The Cross and the Light,” a musical production, will be presented at Saint Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, Gibbsboro, March 1-4.
Now in its seventh season, the production is described as “a larger-than-life, multi-sensory experience centered on Christ’s Passion through Pentecost” and a “rock-your-faith musical.”
The live production uses Environmental Projection technology to project video imagery onto the walls of the church, 150 foot wide by 30 foot tall.
“The actors in this drama are taking the greatest story ever told and presenting it in a manner that truly touches the heart,” wrote Bishop Dennis Sullivan in a letter of support. “It enables the audience to look deeper into their own soul and make a new commitment to their faith.”
“The Cross and the Light” was first presented in Detroit in 2011. “It’s ‘Les Miserable’ in Jerusalem!” exclaimed nationally syndicated talk show host and author Teresa Tomeo upon seeing the performance.
“We wanted to create a truly Catholic adaptation that could transform hearts and minds during Lent by making the Passion and Pentecost something that could capture the audience’s imagination and touch their hearts,” says the production’s creator Kelly Garver Nieto, a Miss America talent winner and musician who opened for acts such as Garth Brooks and Willie Nelson. “What’s truly amazing is the response we received.
“This is a whole new style of ministry for the church,” she said. “This is what is meant by an encounter. We saw over 1,000 youth in tears and lining up for the sacrament of reconciliation upon experiencing this story during past runs…what better way to rev up our Lent for 2018!”
