On Oct. 20, Catherine L. Simpson, a resident of Villa Raffaella Assisted Living, Pleasantville, celebrated her 100th birthday. At left, pictured at the celebration, which was held at Villa Raffaella, her loving and devoted family, many friends, staff members as well as several members of the Hospitaler Sisters of Mercy, who operate Villa Raffaella, surround Simpson. The youngest of four children, she was born Oct. 20, 1918 in Maple Shade. She and her husband, Bill, were in the motel business, with establishments in both New Jersey and Florida. They had a daughter, and today Simpson has four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Throughout the years Catherine and her husband ran a business buying and selling motels including four in New Jersey and four in Florida. They really loved the motel life and after many, many years they decided to retire and enjoy their golden years together. After she lost the love of her life Bill Simpson she remained strong and independent. Eventually found a new home at the Villa Raffaella where she celebrated her 100th Birthday. She really enjoyed herself dancing and laughing with family, friends and the staff.
